Rob Beamon - instructor for fitness program

Bio: Robert C. Beamon III

Rob has always been an avid boxing and Martial Art enthusiast and practitioner for a very long time. He started boxing at the age of 6 in his Grandfather’s basement with his uncles in New Haven, CT.  He took to boxing, as some friends in his neighborhood were boxing out of Libra’s, and Champ's gyms as well as the the Waterbury Boys Club growing up.

Enlisted in the US Navy at 18 where he continued training in boxing. Though he never competed, he trained with friends and shipmates that were on the All Navy Boxing Team, sparring whenever a chance was available. He studied Hawaii Okinawa karate Do Kobudo Shudakan (Kenpo) under Hanshi Joe Bunch  while stationed in Pearl Harbor 1989-1991 and was nominated to compete in the Aloha State Games after winning his first open Kumite for his division in May 1991.’ He also competed in a Muay Thai match back in 2006 winning for the Practical Self Defense Training Center in Waterbury.

He transferred to Corpsman (Medic) School in San Diego, CA. June 1991-November 1991 for Fleet Medical Training. While there, he started his rigorous physical training with Fleet Marine Force (FMF) Corpsman and Navy Seal (B.U.D.S) candidates. After completing school, he transferred to Virginia where he spent seven years (Nov1991-Dec 1998). From 1994-1997, he was assigned to the USS Guam (LPH-9) Amphibious Assault Ship, attached to Amphibious Group 2 out of Norfolk, VA. The USS Guam was a Spec-Ops capable ship that embarked, transported and deployed Marine Expeditionary Units (MEU), Special Operations Units (S.E.A.L/E.O.D) to assigned locations.  It was during this time that he honed his physical conditioning skills. As a Corpsman, he had access to all training available with crew and attachments as the standby medical personnel for various evolutions.

As the senior Surgical Technologist on board for the Medical Department, he was also the  Physical Readiness Training (PRT) Coordinator, and responsible for maintenance of crew medical/dental health records, physicals, treatments, and appointments.

After discharging from the service in 1998, he continued to train utilizing everything he learned and applied during his 10-year tenure until coming across Ron Kosakowski in 2004. It was at this time he began a deeper understanding and appreciation for the concepts and applications of Jeet Kune Do (JKD), Muay Thai, and the various Grappling arts and self-defense, in which he received his Intermediate Level in 2006. Now learning more about Filipino Martial Arts (FMA) such as Kuntao and Ron Kosakowski's blend of Inosanto Kali and Pekiti Tirsia, Rob has a more bigger view of how the old and the new ways can work together in the modern world of fitness as well as self defense.

Currently, he is an Assistant Trainer/Coach and Strength/Conditioning Coach for the PSDTC students and fighters - specifically Jesse James Kosakowski (the pending Bellator/UFC Lightweight/Welterweight Champion).

He completed the World Instructor Training Schools, Personal Training Program (W.I.T.S) in 2015 and will be completing his Internship at Better Athletic Development (B.A.D) Center in Shelton, CT while launching his own independent program PRT Fitness LLC, making it available to all at the Practical Self Defense Training Center in Waterbury, Connecticut.
