1. Confidence takes a while and while you are building it in a students the bullies are destroying it.
2. We live is a society where kids can’t fight back in school.
3. Our country is SUE HAPPY – if a child hurts someone even in self defense there is a high probability of a law suit.

So, what do you do about this problem? Our Brazilian Jiu Jitsu classes are the answer to this problem. Its a non-violent approach to self defense. Guaranteed, your child will handle a self defense situation better once he or she learns the grappling methods of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Come have your child try out a free class and see for yourself. We are 100% confident you will like what you see here at the PSDTC.

Jesse Kosakowski and Brandon Kosakowski have been doing martial arts since they were able to walk. Here they are doing Thai Pad work from Muay Thai. This class is designed for children age 6 to 12 taught by Vinny Brightman, a long time PSDTC student and also a long time Brazilian Jiu Jitsu practitioner and competitor. Children at that age, both girls and boys, for the most part, are taught the Integrated Grappling Systems  aspects of the styles involved now a days in the Jeet Kune Do fighting arts. Integrated Grappling Systems, which is the fourth range of Jeet Kune Do is a mixture of Thai boxing and of course, Bruce Lee's fighting methods which is called Jeet Kune Do (which means, the way of the intercepting fist) for the stand up aspects of training and for ground work, they are taught a combination of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Russian Sombo, Shoot Wrestling and Judo with many of the takedowns, positions to submissions. so to explain it a little better, the children learn escapes from all wrestling positions as well as defenses and counters against striking (i.e. kicking or punching). The combination of various grappling styles is the reason for the title given to this method...Integrated Grappling Systems!

Integrated Grappling Systems for children is a less violent but yet still an effective approach to self-defense for the average situations they could possibly stumble upon at that age. For example, if a child has a confrontation, they can easily take their adversary down to any number of holds and/or a submission and usually a lesson will be learned without anyone actually getting hurt at all by controlling their aggressor as opposed to hitting their aggressor. The art and science of striking from Thai Boxing and Jeet Kune Do are also taught to the children for a complete understanding of all ranges that could occur in martial arts. Hitting techniques are taught only to be used in serious self defense situations along with common sense of it's use and of course for a complete exercise program with an all around understanding of the martial arts they are practicing.  Here the kids are learning a submission hold called the V-arm lock! Children learn submission holds in their martial art program so they understand a non aggressive approach to self defense for a well balanced education in martial arts.

A very important part of self defense that is taught in the children's martial art class is they are constantly reminded on child abduction prevention tactics and constantly reminded of what they are taught to do in that type of situation to ensure every child member of the Practical Self Defense Training A well placed armbar! These kids are trained very well. This is far more than a daycare center...this is a real education in multicultural martial arts! Center has a complete understanding of self defense beyond just kicking, punching and grappling. (see more on that subject below)

The exercise program at the beginning of the class is a science in itself and designed specifically to create a strong grappler. It is an intense workout that every child can slowly work his way into at his or her own pace. Every child eventually feels much stronger and more alert. It builds confidence as well as coordination due to how powerful; yet efficient this martial art essentially is that they are training in. All parents witness their child’s fullest potential brought from within as their self-esteem grows. You will see how they get stronger, their health, both mentally and physically improves. They develop discipline. Which in turn behaviorally habits always improve. The best one yet…you get them away from those video games and watching TV for a few hours a week. Statistics show, martial art training is a great start in life for all children.

Right now there are no action pictures of the kids doing their Jeet Kune Do focus mitt training. Trying to take a good picture and time it right has been hard to do. The pictures taken so far is when the leg returns from the mitts or or when the leg is just lifted. I will keep taking pics and we will get some action shots in or just come on down and see for yourself! Many kids may want to go into a martial art program so they'll learn to kick butt and with the hopes that their instructor will guide children there. Many instructors go for this out of pride to make their school look good! Pride in our school and style is only part of it; I teach kids that the most important thing they'll learn is respect for others...a trait that can only be learned by training in real martial arts. The real ancient martial arts taught at the PSDTC will build confidence! Another good trait that is part of the package of learning real martial arts is, of course, the hands on training and individual attention. There is a well balanced and good feeling inside that comes from the cardio workout and coordinating exercises learned at the Practical Self Defense Training Center!

As you can see these kids are  very focused on their training for perfection of technique. They learn timing, rhythm, footwork and how to do grappling without the use of strength! They are developing a real science that will be with them the rest of their lives!
